The application is very cream like and the finish is reminiscent of a Frost as it has high shine.A series of posts showcasing must-have products from MAC Cosmetics’ permanent line of products. The difference between the two finishes is it provides a more metallic shimmer, whereas Veluxe is more Matte based. VELUXE PEARL– Like the finish Veluxe, this provides a similar smooth texture. Lovely airbrushed finish, however I would like to see them produce a more vivid colour pay off. It applies Matte but with a smoother, less powdery appearance. VELUXE– Silky smooth, almost like a mineralised make up but pressed. Although it appears intense in to pan, this doesn’t translate to the eye. Its great for a subtle look as it provides a hint of c olour, without it being too vivid. Not a highly intense finish but has as a soft feel to the eyeshadow, hence the name. VELVET– This finish provides a soft, washed look. They could be described as almost a pressed glitter, which makes them very textured, due to this they can be dry and result in lots of fall out. LUSTRE– The most pearlescent finish off all the MAC eyeshadow finishes, and frankly, not a particularly popular one. Overall frost finishes are shimmer but not glittery. Mature skinned people are hesitant to use this product due to them being afraid that it will amplify fine lines and wrinkles, however do not worry! You can still enjoy this product as long as it is applied with a brush you should have no problems. Therefore, making them to be a nice middle ground for those just staring out in make up as you can not go wrong when purchasing a Satin finish.įROST– Due to them having shimmery particles it gives an iridescent, pearliest finish, which adds a highlighting quality to the eyesh adow colour. This finish I would class to be between a Matte and a Frost. SATIN– Good colour pay off and gives a light refractive sheen, meaning the colour w ill have a nice shine to it. Can be quite difficult to blend but perhaps there buttery texture is to makeup for the finicky nature of the matte eyeshadows. MATTE2– These are very similar to Matte eyeshadows, as in Matte squared has zero shimmer/sheen/glitter but they do have a softer texture, with again vivid colour pay off. With that said, MAC’s mattes are known for being finicky, most of their permanent matte finished are good quality, however their limited edition ones can be quite dry with varying degrees of opacity. MATTE– no shimmer, no shine, no iridescent, no pearlescent & no glitter! Instead, to make up for the lack of these thing, a matte finish will give you the most intense and most vivid colour pay off. Or when shopping in-store the finish will be displayed on the other side of the shadow container, under the colour name. When shopping online for an eyeshadow to find out the finish, simply hover over the colour and a box will appear displaying the information. MAC eyeshadow finishes consist of: Matte, Matte2, Satin, Frost, Lustre, Velvet, Veluxe and Veluxe pearl. As if choosing the perfect colour wasn’t a tough enough dilemma, but the eyeshadow finish is just as important! But don’t fear, all this will be explained and hopefully you will find the information useful. For all you make up enthusiasts I’ve dedicated this blog post to giving you an idea on what to look for when buying a MAC eyeshadow.
